Painting Technique: The background in this piece is very impressionistic, it is one of the things that attracted me to the piece along with the beauty of the dog. However, I downplayed it so the dog is definitely the star. The dog itself is done with pastel pencils on sand Ingres paper. This is a method used by Colin Bradley and I am currently studying and working through his projects. While we had a Shepherd when I was younger I have never drawn one. This dog is such a wonderful example of the breed and a stunning model.

ReplyDeleteOutstanding work, truly beautiful and emotional !!
ReplyDeleteI think the best part of your painting is the dogs head and eyes, They truly are the thing that captured my atttention. I found the background very difficult to do and your technique is very good for this painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Isabella and Shirley. This is just a gorgeous dog truly at his prime and he grabs your attention, that's for sure. Shirley, backgrounds are always hard for me and something I am really going to work on. I dumbed it down a lot, but the real one captured attention. I have done better with backgrounds since I started using pan pastels.
