Challenge 19 - Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoenicius)
About the composition
It is time to move for a while to alive moving subjects ... birds, animals and eventually maybe "humans" as well.
I do not know much about this bird besides the fact that it is a male easily identified by jet black body plumage with prominent and solid red/orange and yellow epaulettes. It has a noticeably aggressive behavior and scares all sparrows around.
The artistic challenge here is to portray the impression of the black bird by introducing additional colors not only shades of gray. Play with color but make it read as black.
A tip.... this is a high resolution photograph...so if you click on it a couple of times you should see a very magnified image with clear eyes, light falling on the feathers etc. You can also right click and save it to your computer and then zoom it to see details.

Challenge 18 - Cherries in Love
Thank you once again for participating in the PADT challenge - "Red Rose"...and welcome to the new challenge - "Cherries In Love"!
All of us love a great inviting composition which brings our creative juices to the boiling point.
An irresistible urge is sparked and we are ready to grab the paint brush and start to create, this time for sure, a real masterpiece.
However, 20% down the road the painting does not look like it is going to be a masterpiece, 30% down the motivation to go on is close to the river bed, and 50% down the road the failed masterpiece is 1 m away from the garbage can. We all know those feelings too well to admit that no one is an exception. It takes great courage and bravery to show your work here at PADT and accept the heaviness of the "public" eyes and critique.

If you feel like this, rest assured that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. It is a normal part of growing up and learning. Just remember that each attempt counts. Be brave and be grateful - for the lesson learned - and move on.

In this composition I wanted to share with you the most important elements of a 3-dimensional representation. I especially want to emphasize how important it is to be able to "see" all elements that help in describing that appearance. I intentionally lightened the above photo so that now you can see all the important shadow elements in this composition.
The main goal to achieve in this challenge is to paint the cherries as if you can grab them out of the canvas, fully alive and 3 dimensional. How? Analyze all described elements in the second photo and make sure you "see" them, understand them, and paint them with the appropriate, color, value, chroma-vibrancy and color temperature. Make sure you do not forget the importance of the lines and edges (hard or soft).
