About the composition
I wanted to create a composition with very soft lost and found edges. Something similar to having an impression that objects are appearing from and getting lost into the darkness behind, so frequent in the 17th century old masters oil paintings.
Leonardo daVinci called this technique sfumato and described it as "without lines or borders, in the manner of smoke or beyond the focus plane".
Needless to say I love it. It makes me feel as if I am entering a dream world where smoke transforms itself into alive three dimensional objects. I hope all artists at PADT will have a lot of fun and learn a lot from painting this challenge.
Please send your entries by July 7. The next challenge will be posted on July 8.
