Challenge 34 - The Lacemaker by Vermeer

Thank you once again for your participation and comments in the last challenge! Each of the  paintings shows so much richness  of  the imagination and skills in art. The beauty of our "Challenge" is that everyone is a winner - every painting is a  beautiful unique creation which each of us  should be proud of. Thank You.

About the composition

Continuing in the footsteps of the Old Masters, here is another great painting of Vermeer kept in Louvre. "The Lacemaker" is only 24.5 cm x 21 cm (9.6 in x 8.3 in) and it is the smallest of Vermeer's paintings. I would not be explaining the greatness of this painting since you can Google its name and find thousands of studies, explanations and analysis. The areas I would like all of us to pay attention to in this challenge are the distribution of light and shadows, depth of space and impressive composition captivating  the viewer and raising curiosity and interest.

Please send your completed painting by Jan 7. The next painting challenge will be posted on Jan 08, 2013.
