This has a beautiful softness to it that I really like. The leaves on the rose have great depth - maybe a touch of that light that's in the center of the rose would help make it pop a little bit more. Very nice!
Lovely softness in this gives it almost a delicate feel. I agree with Claire, adding some highlights to the rose would make it pop - and make it the center of attention. Perhaps a few highlights on the leaves leading up to the rose also, it would lead the viewers eye right to it.
Sheryl I like the soft and the diffused kind of a feel your work has.Took a look at your other works too at your blog so this is pretty much your style of painting. What I see here is the light source is missing on the rose and the leaves on the left whereas the leaves on the right are highlighted.
Thank you all for the comments! They made me think all day. I am going to work on my rose again. I see the light problem. I don't think that I committed to the light enough. I also saw an edge problem. If I stay true to what is probably my natural style I need to figure out how to make a "pop" with edges as much as light. Again, thank you. You input is sincerely appreciated.
