- Painting Technique : I sketched the outline of the lily and then filled in the background but found trying to get the shimmer of the water very difficult.
- I also found trying to get a bright color tone difficult for the lily- it was either too pink or too red.
- This looked like an easy study but it was not.

- Painting Process: I started with the water lily and the reflections. Then I painted the water. I thought it would be easy but it was so difficult. In particular the water took me quite a long time. Because of the Yupo the colors ran into each other whereby the shade didn't come out well. It was a very good exercise!

Challenge 41 - Water Lily
I must share with you how delighted my cousin Oki was with such a variety of styles and artistic expressions we all witnessed in the last challenge. Many of you shared how difficult it was and I applaud to all of you who participated. What is the most important is to advance your skills and keep observing, painting and practicing.
About the composition
This time I have chosen a subject related to painting water and reflections. While looking at it, it is hard not to think of Claude Monet's garden in France and his famous water lilies.
I hope you will enjoy painting this water study.
Please send your entries by November 09. The next challenge will be posted on November 10.

Challenge 40 - Figure Study
I have to express my deepest respect to all artists who painted our last PADT challenge. It was different and challenging as many of you noticed. I hope it gave an opportunity to learn something new and explore new artistic horizons. I remember reading - "New horizons are often found at the boundaries of chaos" and could not agree more.
About the composition
Recently some of you asked me to introduce a figurative composition as the next PADT challenge. This gave me quite enjoyable and challenging homework.
Meet my cousin Oki. She is an artist and was very kind to voluntarily contribute to PADT artist community and pose for all of us to paint. It is not an easy task, nor all can do it. I find that posing and still looking natural is very difficult. It requires practice, patience and dedication. I thoroughly admired her patience and willingness to repeat the same pose countless times until all looked just right.
I hope you will enjoy painting this figure study.
Please send your entries by September 29. The next challenge will be posted on September 30.

- Painting Process:I planned on simplifying the forms and making a design with the colors of the sunset and cloth. I wanted the goblet to be the central focus so I placed it right in the middle. This was a fun painting to do.
Painting #1

- Size: 8in X 10in
- Medium & Support: watercolor
- Artist Blog: http://only700.blogspot.

- Painting Process: I had planned to keep the background light but found the goblet did not show well so attempted to redo the background. Not a good idea! I also realized that I had placed the goblet too far to the left and the composition was poor. A good learning experience.
